I think I have mentioned before that I collect nutcrackers.  I have a pretty big collection for Christmas since they are really easy to find during the holiday season.  Over the past few years, I have been adding nutcrackers for other holidays as well.

I have found nutcrackers for every holiday except Valentine’s Day.  Well I should clarify that I have found a nutcracker for Valentine’s Day, but unfortunately it is an authentic German one and waaaaay out of my price range.  My sweet husband is pretty tolerant of my weird collections, but I think spending $200 on a nutcracker might be pushing it a bit 🙂

This past Christmas, I was lamenting my lack of a Valentine Nutcracker and my husband suggested picking up a Christmas one on clearance after the holidays that I could paint and decorate.

I got looking on Amazon and they have a great selection of unfinished nutcrackers that you could paint and decorate for Valentine’s Day. Here are a few great options…

I lucked out and found this little cutie at Target.  Fortunately for me, the colors were perfect for Valentine’s Day so I wouldn’t even have to paint him.  His jacket and scepter are glittery – so fun!

I thought about leaving him as is, but then decided I needed to bling him up a bit.  So I dug into my craft supplies for anything that was heart shaped or pink and got to creating my Valentine nutcracker.

My craft stash didn’t fail me.  I was able to scrounge up some mini heart buttons, a mini heart garland, some resin heart cookies, sequins, some 1/2″ pink roses, and glitter cording.  Just perfect for adding some pizzazz to my Valentines Day nutcracker!

I knew immediately that I wanted to use the mini heart buttons on his jacket.  Much more valentine-y already!

Then I decided he needed to show his sensitive side, so I pulled out some of the mini roses.  I started by using them as epaulets on the shoulders of his jacket.  Then I decided they would look cute on his boots too.

Next, I decided his belt needed some work.  I added some of the pink cording and cut one of the red hearts from the garland to add to his middle.

I finished my Valentine nutcracker by adding another heart from the garland to his helmet. I replaced the ball on the scepter with a resin heart cookie.
