Looking for a fun back to school treat for teachers or kids? This cute pencil plastic canvas candy bar cover works up quickly and will be sure to bring a smile to their face.

Every year when my kids go back to school, I like to hide a special little treat in their lunch boxes.  Just a little something to let them know I am thinking of them on their first day of school.  This year, I made each one of my kids a cute pencil plastic canvas candy bar wrapper and stuck a Hershey Bar inside.  In addition to being a fun surprise for your kids, they also make a great back to school treat for teachers.

After your kids eat the chocolate, it can find a second life as a fun plastic canvas pencil case.  My middle daughter plans to keep to add a few pencils to hers and keep it in her backpack in case she runs out.  You could also put a magnet on the back and your kids could hang them in their locker to keep extra pens or pencils on hand.

The majority of the stitching on each pencil is slanted gobelin, so these little candy bar covers work up pretty quickly.  I was able to make one of these in an evening while I was watching tv.

Assembling Your Plastic Canvas Candy Bar Cover

Using pink yarn, overcast the top edge of both pencil pieces.  I included the slight curve on either end in my overcasting.  This is the area that will be left open so you can insert the candy bar.  So the edge needs to be finished before you sew the 2 pencil pieces together.

With wrong sides facing each other, whipstitch the pencil pieces together, using the color of yarn that matches the surrounding stitching.

I found it easiest to start at the point of the pencil and stitch up one side first.  Then return back to the pencil point and stitch up the other side. The top (where you overcast with pink yarn) will be left open so you can insert the candy bar.
